Slice of Paradise

There are many, many places that are our favorites, but Walsh Cove which is nestled between West and East Redonda Islands in Desolation Sound is one of the best places to either hang on the hook or stern tie.  We’ve been there often but this summer we were joined by an enthusiastic flock of Oyster Catchers.,-124.9338677,11z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x502493c00006d004!8m2!3d50.268742!4d-124.8002752

This particular morning Sideways was up early for the low tide feast and got a look at how this lovely little creatures get their breakfast.    Normally they are very skittish and it’s hard to sneak up on them, but they were too busy to mind me much.

The combination of the early morning light, the stillness of the changing tide, and the huge oyster beds on the Gorges Islands provided a perfect venue for these determined birds.

What a thrill sit in the cool of the magical morning and watch them get the food by pushing their beaks into the shells and sucking out the contents, and to explore the cove by paddleboard later in the day.
