Searching for Sunshine

April Sunshine was hard to find, but we got lucky last week and had a lovely sail in 10-12 knot winds so OMOO glided along at 5-6 knots.  She took us to anchor in Clam Bay for a relaxing Friday evening in a warm sunny cockpit and a silent night under cloudy skies.

Saturday we woke up to torrential rain which reminded us that usually at this time of year we head north of Cape Caution and into EXACTLY this type of weather.   Motoring around Thetis Island and hunkering down in Telegraph Harbor we cooked curry and listened to CBC all afternoon.  It was a lovely French Broadcast with a variety of music, mostly old tunes and perfect for a lazy day.  OMOO keeps us cozy no matter what’s going on above decks.

Sunday we woke to sunshine again, we’re so happy to sip coffee in the cockpit and watch boats leaving Thetis Marina.  Off we went in light winds and floated back to Maple Bay at 2-3 knots under sail.  Of course once we were all tucked back into our slip the wind rose to 20 knots which is perfect for a great ride.  BUT we’ll be back out there again soon.

We’re taking the year off for sailing on a long trip and will be staying local, meaning the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound, so looking forward to staying warmer and meeting up with friends on the water.  Let us know what your plans are and we’ll plan some rendezvous!!

Cheers from Sideways Sally and the Skipper.
